"As we advance in the religious life and faith, we shalL run the way of god's commandments with expanded hearts and unspeakable sweetness of love" (regula Benedicti, Prol 49).

Work (...Labora...)

The Holy Rule of St. Benedict says: “Then are they truly Nuns when they live by work of their hands”.

Work is shared by all, according to each one’s abilities: this work is not merely a pastime, it is creative; and by it the community earns its living. In the monastic life no one is asked to forego her natural gifts, but is expected to use them in God’s service.

Often, quite unsuspected talents are discovered and developed. In our Abbey there is a variety of activities:

  • handicraft,
  • baking altar breads,
  • artistic work e.g. vestments and banners,
  • bookeeping,
  • typesetting
  • layout of the Catholic Chronicle of the Archdiocese of Castries.

The Nuns are also engaged in various apostolic works as:

  • counselling
  • giving and providing a place for retreat
  • spiritual guidance
  • different forms of hospitality.
